Superintendent
Dear Elmwood Local Schools Community:
It is an honor to officially become the new Superintendent of Elmwood Local Schools and join the staff, students and community of this great district. I would like to thank the Board of Education for their faith and trust in bringing me to the district, as well as the warm welcome from staff, students, and community members during the last several months. I am proud to call myself a Royal!
While students have been enjoying the break, summer work has been ongoing throughout the district. A few highlights:
- The roof project is nearly complete
- Traditional summer cleaning and improvement projects are coming to an end
- An extensive capital/facility maintenance planning and financing process has been started
- Enrollment has been ongoing
- Curriculum resources have been ordered, sorted, and delivered
- Bus maintenance and inspections are completed and ready for the year
- Staffing/hiring has been finalized
- Fiscal year end was completed and the updated forecast is ready for review and Board approval
- Many additional tasks and projects to prepare for the upcoming school year
A renewed emphasis on PBIS, which stands for Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports, has been a district focus dating back to last spring. The District Leadership Team, comprised of teaching staff and administration, have worked extensively to develop the structure for a refresh and reboot in the coming year. While PBIS is not new, the framework for local decisions in setting expectations, utilizing common language and approaches, and acknowledging student efforts is part of a comprehensive strategy focused on student achievement and quality school experiences. All district staff will undergo training prior to the start of the school year, and ongoing structure development will occur during the first semester.
Students have been in and out of the building for summer activities, building offices have reopened, and staff have started returning to get ready for the year ahead. It is definitely feeling like August! On behalf of the Board of Education and staff of Elmwood Local Schools, we look forward to the upcoming school year and working together to support the success of all of our students.
